You’ve been asked to interview a band. This is a great opportunity for you, as a music journalist, to grow your brand and get more exposure. You need to write an article about the interview that will impress your editor, but you only have 10 minutes to conduct the interview and gather enough information for an incredible feature story.

Making the 10 Minutes Count!

How can you best use those 10 minutes? How do you make the most of the time you have with one of your favorite musicians? What questions should you ask? What do you bring along with you on the day of the interview?

How to Interview a Band?

There are several ways to go about doing this, but one of the best ways is to start it off with some sort of ice breaker question.

If you know each other or have mutual friends, talk about that. If you don’t, it’s still not the end of the world. Just ask them what their favorite part of the city they’re touring in is.

Another great way to start an interview is by telling them about your own story and how you got into music journalism.
